Description
AEE’s Government Affairs team is responsible for building strong relationships with federal, state, and local governments. Team members represent AEE to decision makers and opinion leaders and are essential to advancing institutional priorities. The Associate ensures the effective and efficient functioning of the Government Affairs team—the work is fast-paced and high-stakes.
Responsibilities
- Provide research, analytical, and strategic support to the Government Affairs team:
- Track and analyze assigned policy and political issues at the local, state, and federal level
- Research local, state and federal electoral campaigns
- Track and compile public opinion polling data
- Monitor treatment of advanced energy sector by political and policy media
- Coordinate between Government Affairs team and other AEE teams
- Attend meetings with outside organizations, coalition partners, and government officials
- Manage day-to-day administration of advocacy and policy activities
- Assist with event planning including conferences, Hill days, and Congressional receptions
- Oversee online presence of Government Affairs team
- Maintain database of government relations activities and contacts
- Support other Government Affairs staff as needed
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of relevant work experience in campaigns, government, or non-profits
- Bachelor’s degree with strong academic record
- Knowledge of energy, environment, and/or technology policy issues and the political process. Familiarity with campaign finance rules a plus
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with keen attention to detail
- Superb interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communications skills
- Commitment to the goals and vision of AEE
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft and Apple operating systems and software
