Civic Engagement
Civic engagement is at the core of Bard College’s institutional mission, reflecting the fundamental belief that higher education institutions can and should operate in the public interest. Bard uses its resources to develop partnerships that address local, national, and global problems, reach underserved populations, and tackle critical issues of education and public policy.

Bard Conservatory Orchestra Presents Concert with Maestro Leon Botstein on December 14
The program includes Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in B Minor “Unfinished”; Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Psalm 42, Op. 42, Wie der Hirsch schreit; and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Op. 93.
Bard Early College Receives Grant from Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to Support Accelerated Science Education Across its New York City Campuses
The grant will provide funding for the design of a new laboratory and instructional resources for use at Bard High School Early Colleges (BHSEC) campuses in Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, and Brooklyn.
Stevenson Library Converts to Geothermal Heating and Cooling
The library’s geothermal conversion will eliminate burning approximately 14,000 gallons of fuel oil and reduce 127 tons of carbon emissions per year.

Bard College offers the best of both worlds: a traditional liberal arts college with exceptional programs in the fine and performing arts. In small classes taught by notable faculty, students work closely with top professionals in their fields. All students, whatever their major, are encouraged to take advantage of the College’s high-level arts programming and to cultivate their artistic abilities.
