Biography:
Professor Ussher’s fields of interest include monetary theory, local currencies, crypto economics, macroeconomics, finance, agent-based models, market microstructure, and history of economic thought. She previously taught at Queens College, City University of New York; and the University of Massachusetts Boston. She is a Blockchain Research Fellow at Wolfram Research; Affiliate Scholar at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies; and economist for the Hudson Valley Current. She has been a consultant to the CFA Institute on international monetary reform; senior researcher at Consensys on blockchain ecosystems; and securities analyst at the Reserve Bank of Australia. Recent peer-reviewed publications include “Keynes and the International Monetary System: Time for a Tabular Standard?” in the European Journal of the History of Economic Thought (2018); “International Monetary Policy with Commodity Buffer Stocks,” in the European Journal of Economics and Economic Policies: Intervention (2016); “Too Dynamic to Fail: Empirical Support for an Autocatalytic Model of Minsky’s Financial Instability Hypothesis,” in the Journal of Economic Interaction and Coordination (2016); and “International Financial Reform,” in the Elgar Companion to Post Keynesian Economics (2012). Working papers cover subjects like blockchain technologies and their impact on society, local complementary currencies, trade credit networks, margins and transaction taxes in an artificial speculative futures market, and Nicholas Kaldor and the commodity reserve currency. She is the recipient of numerous research and teaching grants from the Institute for New Economic Thinking, City University of New York, and New School for Social Research.
