Learn about the options for making power at your home or business through a review of geothermal, wind, fuel cells, solar hot water and solar electricity. We will then learn the details of how solar electric systems work and why some make more economic sense than others – you get the tools to profit from solar energy!

Learning Objectives:

  • Acquire an understanding of the technologies and applicability of various on-site energy and power generation including renewables (wind, solar hot water & electric) as well as fuel cells and geothermal.
  • Explore the combined heat and power concept and applicability at the residential and commercial scales – what is it and how can it work economically?
  • Examine solar electric generation technology – what are the latest commercially available design approaches and why are they chosen? Includes description of “hybrid” solar designs integrating grid-tied solar and micro-grid controllers with battery bank and sometimes fossil generator integration.

Description

Forest Trends is seeking a paid full-time Research Assistant to work with the Forest Trade and Finance Program. The Research Assistant will support our Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) finance tracking initiative to promote a clearer and more comprehensive picture of the REDD+ financing landscape. The program therefore works with international development multilaterals, governments and other REDD+ stakeholders to provide research data that will help inform the REDD+ policy development and implementation process. Duties will include developing and maintaining a database, reviewing a research survey and guidance document, researching REDD+ financing and analyzing the impact of this study in our project countries.

Description

The Project Analyst will play a significant role in the development and execution of corporate partnership projects. Working directly with the Managing Director in Washington, DC and several Project Managers, the Project Analyst will conduct research and analysis to support the development and execution of partnership projects, as well as managing specific tasks and segments of projects independently. This internship position supports the Stewardship team at Forterra, working on the Ecosystem Service Benefits of Urban Forests program, specifically focusing on stormwater benefits. The intern will gain knowledge and skills in ecosystem service valuation and markets, municipal urban policy, and urban forestry research methods.
