Description

The Environmental Integrity Project seeks an experienced senior-level attorney for a full-time position in our Austin, Texas office. The senior attorney will help develop and implement anti-pollution strategies, including legal, policy, and communications strategies. The senior attorney will be responsible for a small docket of active cases, comprised of federal citizen suits, state court actions, permit challenges, and/or rule appeals, and will be required to independently handle all aspects of his or her cases. In addition to handling legal matters, the senior attorney will also research and write policy reports, and will communicate with elected officials, the media, and members of the public. The senior attorney must be capable of working as part of a campaign and coordinating with organizers, activists, and client organizations. The senior attorney will also help with aspects of fundraising, including aiding in budget development, grant-writing, and reporting.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, a candidate must:

  • Be licensed to practice law in Texas;
  • Have a minimum of five years of environmental law practice;
  • Have significant trial experience in federal, state, and/or administrative proceedings;
  • Have strong research and writing skills, and know how to write for different audiences;
  • Be tenacious and detail-oriented.

  1. The Investors’ Council is an exclusive leadership group for active large-scale impact investors. It provides a forum for experienced impact investors to strengthen the practice of impact investing and accelerate learning about new areas in the field.
  2. The Impact Reporting and Investment Standards (IRIS) is a set of metrics that can be used to measure and describe an organization’s social, environmental, and financial performance.
  3. ImpactBase is the online global directory of impact investment vehicles that reduces search costs for investors and fund managers.
  4. The Outreach initiative elevates the profile of impact investing by highlighting exemplary impact investments, industry progress, and best practices. The GIIN also conducts and disseminates research, informs conference and event programming, and promotes mainstream media coverage of impact investments.

Description

The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) is looking to hire a Research Manager to play a key role in shaping and implementing a focused research program in this fast paced, growing start-up organization. The ideal candidate for the role must have strong research skills, analytical capacity, and project management experience. The Research Manager will report to the Director of Strategy and Development.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, and conduct qualitative and quantitative practitioner-oriented research to advance the impact investing field
  • Manage research projects from conception to publication, including project and methodological design, resource planning, designing questionnaires, conducting analysis, producing written reports, etc.
  • Help shape the GIIN’s research agenda with innovative ideas, research methods, and recognition of trends
  • Supervise and support the professional development of the Research & Development Associate

Qualifications

The Manager must have the ability to design and conduct data-driven research in an organized, collaborative, and resourceful manner. The ideal candidate has research and management experience, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Experience in high-growth organizations would be advantageous, but is not required for the role.

  • Strong conviction that for-profit investment capital can effectively address social and environmental challenges
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or equivalent experience in related field required (e.g. Business, Policy, Finance, Economics, International Development)
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience showing ability to synthesize and effectively communicate complex ideas, particularly in written reports.
  • Experience in and nuanced knowledge of investing or finance highly desirable
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical and creative thinking skills; a proactive approach to solving problems
  • Success managing large projects with multiple stakeholders, prioritizing simultaneous projects, and meeting deadlines
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience in analytical/statistical methods and interpretation of statistical results; knowledge of survey design and statistical software tools to analyze/interpret data

Requirements
To perform the duties of this position, the Coordinator must serve as an incidental motor vehicle operator. This requires the operation of a motor vehicle on both public and private roads during daylight hours and occasionally after dark, including inclement weather. A valid driver’s license is required. The Coordinator must have access to his/her own vehicle and must maintain insurance to comply with Oregon law. Mileage will be reimbursed. The position requires travel throughout the Portland metropolitan area and may require out of area and/or out of state travel.

The position involves frequent travel to offices of partner organizations and agencies. If site visits are required to review grant applications or potential sites for conservation easements, the work may require walking long distances across sloped, uneven terrain, sometimes in inclement weather. The Coordinator will have an assigned desk, telephone, and computer at the District office. The District office is the primary work station for this position, and is a smoke-free and drug-free environment.Attendance at evening meetings is required. Last Year, two significant tropical storms dropped an estimated 12-18 inches of rainfall and disrupted many lives in the Hudson Valley, Catskills and beyond. This conference will explore the ecological impacts these two storms had on the Hudson River.

On September 19th, 2012 the Hudson River Environmental Society, the Hudson River Foundation, and the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies will be presenting the impacts on the Hudson River estuary and watershed by Tropical Storms Irene and Lee.
