In June 2010, HI released its first publication, FTW! Net Neutrality For The Win: How Entertainment and the Science of Influence Can Save Your Internet. The guide offers a concise overview of the policy debate surrounding “net neutrality,” as well as a communication strategy derived from the behavioral sciences, that assists communicators looking to influence the discourse. In July 2010, HI was featured in a New York Times profile titled, “Adding Punch to Influence Public Opinion,” and the following December, HI received a grant from the Ford Foundation to further develop its innovative methodology with the evaluation of one of 2010’s most widely discussed social documentaries, Waiting for “Superman.” In 2012, HI conducted a study for MTV on the impact of (DIS)connected, its original film about digital abuse.

BLM Utah manages approximately 22 million acres of grazing land statewide. Rangelands provide tremendous amount of social, economic and environmental value on a local, national, and global scale. They are a great resource not only for people but also for all other living organisms that inhabit the area; hence it is imperative to encourage and enhance sustainable practices to retain the value of such lands. To that end, the state government utilizes rangeland management plans to prevent excessive and unchangeable damage to these resources. The goal and focus of these plans is to improve and maintain conditions of rangelands by assessing and monitoring their health, making necessary changes to current trends and creating sustainable practices.
The objective of this internship is to provide meaningful experiences for youth while also providing a benefit to public land resources and its users. Interns will gain job skills related to the management of public lands by working with land managers primarily on rangeland conservation, management, and improvement projects.
Description
The ACE intern will assist rangeland managers and other BLM resource specialists in accomplishing a variety of tasks such as surveys, monitoring, maintenance, data entry, and habitat protection along with other duties associated with public land stewardship.
Responsibilities
- Livestock counts under supervision of the range conservationist to determine range use.
- Data entry into the Range Management Automated systems (RMAS) to assist in grazing administration.
- Collecting and recording data for various range studies to determine condition, trend, utilization, and actual use of the land.
- Providing assistance in identifying necessary range improvement projects for wells, reservoirs, fences, vegetation, etc. Intern will also inspect and inventory the condition of current projects.
- Serving as a team member of the range inventory efforts including collecting, compiling and recording vegetation data on each site write-up area (SWA), and making observations on wildlife use.
- Collecting and recording water source data from wells, pipelines, reservoirs, etc. as well as natural and man-made boundary lines defined by allotments, fences, and contours.
- Organizing and coordinating field work with BLM and partner organizations and prioritizing overall duties as established by supervisor.
- Establishing new monitoring protocol and continuing existing studies.
- Other tasks include but are not limited to: some recreation management; building and maintaining fences; and writing for and contributing to the Federal Land Policy and Management process (FLPMA).
Work is partly in a field setting and partly in the office. The ACE intern may be required to work in remote areas managed by the St. George Field Office. This includes driving four-wheel drive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles (ATV), and spending all day walking and working in rough, muddy, uneven terrain while lifting up to 50 pounds of gear. Interns are expected to work 40 hours/week and must be willing to work varied schedules throughout the internship.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a degree in rangeland management, ecology, botany, natural resource management, or other related disciplines appropriate to the position. A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable. The California Climate Scientist will design and carry out research on the preparedness of vulnerable sectors and populations in California to cope with the current and projected impacts of climate change. Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and carry out primary analysis of climate change on key sectors and populations in California and western states, taking into account technical feasibility, opportunities for effective collaboration with key regionally-based experts and influential stakeholders, policy relevance within the context of the UCS California office plan and with UCS’s climate campaign objectives.
- Working from the UCS office in California, help develop, review and ensure high quality of materials on climate science and adaptation, including but not limited to press releases, web pages, science briefs, draft legislation, expert testimony, and public presentations.

Position also requires strong public speaking skills, a demonstrable ability to write for non-technical audiences, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
PhD in a relevant field required. Formal education can be from a range of areas of specialization relevant to the broad scope of climate change science, impacts and sustainable paths forward. These include, but are not limited to climate-relevant research in the atmosphere, ecosystems, land use, agriculture, hydrology, and oceans. Spanish language skills are highly desirable.
Work requires five to seven years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience, such as collaborative work in academic research teams or government research programs or the application of climate science to public policy and experience in communicating science to a wide variety of audiences. Description
Sage is seeking a talented researcher/policy analyst to work across several projects and campaigns. We seek someone with a strong and demonstrated commitment to economic, racial and environmental justice, and three to ten years of experience in non-profit advocacy, public policy or union work.
Specifically, the researcher/policy analyst will help create the framing, evidence and public policy positions needed to advance our mission. The researcher/policy analyst will work as an integral part of a team for each campaign he or she is assigned to. Other activities will include testifying to public bodies, participating in actions, representing Sage at other meetings and events and strategic planning.
Initially, the researcher/policy analyst will be assigned to Sage’s Ports Campaign, responsible for researching and writing on conditions for workers at Sea-Tac Airport and the Port of Seattle and related community issues. Other campaigns in the next 1-2 years could include development, housing and displacement issues and general support for worker organizing.
Responsibilities
· Research and write about the economic conditions in the Puget Sound for low-wage workers, low-income communities and people of color. Products may include published reports, policy briefs, memos, public presentations and policy language.
· Generate the evidence and data to support Sage positions and policy reforms. Research methods may include investigative research, database analysis, spreadsheet modeling/calculations, literature review, interviews and surveys.
· Provide tactical research support for Sage’s campaigns, including fact sheets, e-blasts, web postings and internal memos.
· Represent Sage at public events, such as public hearings, and coalition meetings.
· Participate as a team member in Sage campaigns, including planning, events and actions.
Qualifications
· Exceptional writing, editing, presentation and verbal skills.
· Strong quantitative skills, including extensive use of spreadsheets and experience with databases.
· Strong organizational, strategic and analytic thinking.
· Familiarity with government data sources, such as Census products and WA State agency data.
· Familiarity with the concepts of survey research and design, including basic knowledge of statistics.
· Commitment to grassroots organizing, economic and racial justice and organized labor required.
· Candidates should have a minimum three years relevant experience; comparable experience considered, such as journalism or legal. Must have strong investigative research, writing and communication skills and basic quantitative skills (experience with MS Excel).
· Campaign-oriented experience, such as policy reform, organizing or political work, is highly desirable.
· Masters in public policy, urban planning, health or similar preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.
· Willingness to work long and irregular hours as required by campaign needs.

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship, established in 1987, is a highly-competitive national fellowship program that provides college graduates with the opportunity to gain a Washington perspective on key issues of peace and security. Twice yearly, the Fellowship’s Board of Directors selects a group of outstanding individuals to spend six to nine months in Washington. Scoville Fellows work with one of the twenty-nine participating NGOs in or near Washington, DC. They conduct research, write, and perform public education and advocacy on a range of peace and security issues including arms control and nonproliferation, environmental and energy security, international and regional security, military budget, and peacekeeping. They may also attend coalition meetings, Congressional hearings, and policy briefings, as well as meetings with policy experts arranged by the fellowship.

Prospective fellows are expected to demonstrate excellent academic accomplishments and a strong interest in issues of peace and security. Graduate study, a college major, course work, or substantial independent reading that reflects the substantive focus of the fellowship is also a plus. Prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy is highly desirable. It is preferred, but not required, that such activities be focused on peace and security issues.
Candidates are required to have completed a baccalaureate degree by the time the fellowship commences. § Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses of labor market information;
§ Produce professional-looking charts, graphs, and presentation materials;

§ Maintain the NYCLMIS data warehouse and/or website.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include 2 or more years of a combination of professional and graduate academic experience doing the following:
