Responsibilities
- Conduct research to support ongoing product stewardship projects that have the potential to change the current paradigm of waste management.

Qualifications
Interns should have excellent organization, analytic, and communication skills, both written and oral, and be passionate about moving toward a more sustainable future. Ideal candidates will have academic or professional experience or knowledge related to environmental advocacy and/or a sufficient background in environmental and public health issues. Climate Presenters are volunteers who work to reveal the complete truth about the climate crisis on behalf of The Climate Reality Project. These leaders are typically engaged in a number of activities aimed at this goal, but the primary tool in their arsenal is a climate science slide show developed by our Chairman, former Vice President Al Gore. We receive thousands of requests for presentations every year. Climate Presenters deliver this slide show to communities around the world, sharing the truth about climate change and what we can do to solve it. Presenters become leaders in their communities who inform people about the reality we face and encourage them to take action.
New volunteers join the Climate Presenter ranks of more than 3,000 people around the globe by participating in a three-day training with Vice President Gore. The training covers presentation skills, social media engagement, and more.
After the training, these volunteers commit to giving at least 10 presentations in their communities within the following year. Many will do far more than that.

Description
As part of the Bureau of Development Policy (BDP), the substantive policy arm of UNDACP , the Climate Change Adviser will
provide global advice to BDP on issues related to Climate Change, Convention of the Parties, Clean Development Mechanism
(CDM) as well as the Kyoto Protocol among other important related policies and mechanisms. The Advisor will also respond to
demands for advice from the 166 countries served by UNDACP network of country offices.
S/he will be part of a multi-disciplinary advisory team, based in New York, which combines technical competences in particular
fields with a holistic approach to development. This will involve keeping abreast of research and pollicy developments,
gathering and communicating lessons learned from experience, partnering with other advisers, consultants and global institutions,
and playing a strong advocacy role for corporate global policy frameworks and a resoruce mobilization role that would enable the
implementations of these policies on global, regional and country levels. In carrying out these functions the policy advisor will
also help enhance the skills of staff in UNDACP country offices.
The Climate Change Advisor will provide pollicy advice to UNDACP , focusing on (i) aligning UNDACP climate change
management and human development work; (ii) mainstreaming adaptation into national development in developing countries;
and (iii) promoting a One UN response to cimate change. In particular, the Climate Change Adviser will advise on evolving
issues under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the Kyoto Protocol. The Climate
Change Adviser will act as the UNDACP focal point with external partners, including the UNFCCC, and will coordinate
UNDACP activities in meetings. A core component of the assignment is to prepare UNDACP policy papers and briefings on
climate change.
The Climate Change Adviser must stay abreast of key climate change policy issues, be able to advise on options under the
UNFCCC, and be able to effectively communicate lessons learned, foster and maintain partnerships with other UN agencies and
relevant organizations/institutions, and play a strong advocacy role in relation to corporate global climate change policy

The League’s Energy Program advances clean energy solutions to reduce the impacts of air pollution on people and natural resources. The Director of the Energy Program, located in the League’s St. Paul, Minnesota office and reporting to the Conservation Director, is responsible for strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Energy Program. This includes direction and oversight of energy policy and education initiatives at the state, regional, and national levels, supervision of program staff, and fundraising.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the strategic agenda for the Energy Program to advance energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other League energy policies.
- Supervise professional and administrative staff as well as various consultants; develop and administer program budget.

The Volunteer will spend one year at the Izaak Walton League and participate in leadership and training opportunities with the full Chesapeake Conservation Corps.
Responsibilities
The Clean Water and Environmental Education Intern (Conservation Corps Volunteer) will be engaged in three major activities: 1) environmental education on stream ecology, pollution prevention and wildlife conservation; 2) homeowner outreach to increase the number of conservation landscapes and other stormwater management techniques installed; and 3) water quality monitoring.
This position is 40 hours per week and is located at the Izaak Walton League’s national headquarters at 707 Conservation Lane, Gaithersburg, MD 20878.
Environmental Education
The Izaak Walton League and our members in Maryland are actively connecting children to the outdoors and conservation in schools, on chapter properties, and at the League’s national Conservation Center in Gaithersburg. Our Creek Freaks program brings applied science to life for children ages 10 to 14 through hands-on and Internet-based stream exploration. Creek Freaks revolves around hands-on activities demonstrating science concepts, including how stream systems work and the importance of healthy, functioning riparian areas. It also includes field exploration and biological, chemical and physical data collection in local streams. Participants can use the Creek Freaks Web site to post data, photos, and videos to tell the story of their streams to the public.
The League can also expand the reach of informal environmental education in Maryland through our network of more than a dozen community-based chapters. These chapters are already connecting children to the outdoors and conservation through activities at chapter facilities, including nature walks, fishing days, and canoeing camps, and by providing programs in local schools. To more directly support these efforts, the League has developed a Youth Manual with activities for children ages 6 to 9. The activities encourage outdoor exploration and focus on ecology and conservation of water, forests, and wildlife.
The Clean Water and Environmental Education Intern will:
- Deliver environmental education programming to elementary and middle school students using the League’s Creek Freaks program and Youth Manual, both on the League’s headquarters property in Gaithersburg, Maryland and at elementary and middle school classrooms.
- Run one or more afterschool clubs based on the League’s Creek Freaks and Youth Manual curricula.
- Run environmental education activities at League chapters, watershed celebrations and other events throughout Maryland.
- Recruit, train and support League members and other community volunteers to provide informal environmental education to children.
Stormwater Management
With funding from the Chesapeake Bay Trust, the Izaak Walton League is currently conducting the Lands Green, Waters Clean Homeowner Behavior Change research project. The project seeks to increase the number of homeowners who install stormwater management practices such as rain barrels, rain gardens and conservation landscaping. The League is conducting scientifically sound research that will determine: 1) the best methods and messages to persuade homeowners to adopt conservation practices; 2) the barriers homeowners identify preventing them from implementing conservation practices; and 3) the best methods to overcome perceived barriers and increase the number of stormwater management practices homeowners install. The League, with assistance from project partners and expert consultants, will accomplish this research using a combination of literature review, audience segmentation, focus groups, and a pilot communications campaign.
The Clean Water and Environmental Education Intern will:
- Use the outreach materials and delivery methods developed through the Lands Green, Waters Clean project to conduct outreach to homeowners, connect homeowners with technical assistance or volunteer support as needed, and track the number of rain gardens, rain barrels, and conservation landscapes installed as a result of this outreach.
- Conduct community outreach including making presentations to homeowners associations, writing newsletter articles, distributing outreach materials at events, and conducting tours of stormwater management practices.
- Organize volunteer workdays or workshops on conservation landscaping and other stormwater management techniques at the League’s headquarters or at Izaak Walton League chapters throughout Maryland.
Stream Monitoring
The Corps Volunteer will work with Izaak Walton League chapters in Maryland, partner organizations such as the Muddy Branch Alliance, and other community volunteers to monitor water quality of streams throughout the state. Stream monitoring will utilize biological, chemical and physical monitoring protocols used by the League’s Save Our Streams program. The Corps Volunteer will enter water quality data into an online database and will track information about the number of volunteer participating and the number of stream sites monitored. The Corps Volunteer also will provide data to local government agencies and to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

- Must be between the ages of 18 and 25 years at the time of enrollment (can include individuals with or without college degrees).

Within fifty years, policymakers in East Asia’s advanced industrial democracies like Japan and South Korea have gone from sounding alarms about high fertility, to fretting over declining fertility. But the policy responses in each era have been remarkably different. In the early post-WWII period, both Japan and South Korea aggressively promoted family planning and even emigration as a means of controlling population growth. With neo-Malthusian theories at the time linking high fertility to poverty, official encouragement of ‘small and prosperous families’ became a central part economic planning. By comparison, current demographic trends pose much more worrisome long-term challenges, with steady increases in the ratio of retirees to workers and children underway in both countries. And yet recent policy responses in Japan and South Korea have been far more hesitant, and focused on creating incentives via subsidies and services rather than lowering barriers to childrearing via legislation or regulation. This presentation explores how the politics of population control have changed in countries like Japan and South Korea throughout the post-WWII period, taking into account both changes in the structural environment as well as political actors.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) is a member of the Heartland Inventory &Monitoring Network, fifteen parks in the Midwest sharing resources and professional expertise to inventory and monitor natural resources. Inventory and monitoring builds a strong scientific foundation for the management and protection of natural resources in National Parks.
Responsibilities
Interns will travel with park staff to two other national parks, including Hopewell Culture National Historical Park established to preserve remnants of ancient, mound-building civilizations and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial established to preserve the site of Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home.
In addition, excellent recreational and educational opportunities are available near Cuyahoga Valley National Park, including hiking and biking trails, numerous restaurants and theaters, nearby shopping, easy access to Lake Erie and multiple universities and colleges.
Training Provided: The park will provide training to interns in (1) plant identification; (2) understanding methods and managing exotic plants with potential to become a state-certified applicator, if interested; (3) using GIS and GPS technology; (4) propagating native plants; and (5) safely using chainsaws and other tools to manage exotic plants.
Qualifications
Internship is available to US Citizens and Green Card holders only;Interns must be 18 to 25 years old;Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals within NPS;Must have effective communication skills with diverse audiences;Must be able to work alone and in a group;Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to provide documentation;Personal vehicles are required;Interns must have personal medical insurance for the duration of their participation with ACE;Must have a deep interest in field work and a respect for nature;Must be able to able and willing to work outdoors, in varying weather conditions, participating in physical labor;English proficiency is imperative; andAbility and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required.

Responsibilities
This is a demanding support position that offers an excellent opportunity for a talented college student (preferably a rising junior or senior) to learn more about business innovation, management education and program evaluation. The Business and Society Program Summer Intern will work closely with the team that is managing well-established projects of the Business and Society Program. Specifically, the Intern will:
- Aid the Center for Business Education team in reviewing data from our biennial survey and ranking of MBA programs (www.BeyondGreyPinstripes.org), in preparation for the development of special reports focused on a variety of topics around social and environmental offerings
- Provide administrative support for our First Mover Fellowship, a program for exceptional institutional intrapreneurs – mid-career business professionals recognized as high potential talent in their companies (www.aspeninstitute.org/firstmovers).
- Upload materials for CasePlace.org, our online library of reading materials, multimedia content, and teaching modules that focuses on social, environmental and ethical issues in business education (www.CasePlace.org).

- Review existing written, multimedia, and other informational collateral on project and processes of the firm
- Interview relevant firm stakeholders (management, clients, et al)

Qualifications
Educational Background:
