SHANGRI LA BOTANICAL GARDENS AND NATURE CENTER is a non-profit
program of The Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation. We are a
Platinum LEED-NC Certified facility! Having opened our doors to the
public in March 2008, there are many opportunities to refine and
improve our programs for school groups and the general public.
Description
During your tenure here, you will teach programs to school groups and the
general public in our organic garden or in the 200+ acres of bayou,
cypress-tupelo swamp, upland forest, or meadows. This is a demanding
position that requires initiative, self-direction, organizational
skills, a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. For more

Responsibilities
-Teach educational field trip programs for pre-K through 8th grade
students
-Plan, develop and offer educational/interpretive programs to the
general public
-Lead interpretive boat tours for the general public
-Assist with summer day camps
-Maintain hands-on exhibits, terrariums, and freshwater aquariums in
our Nature Discovery Center and Exhibit Hall
-Assist with planning and implementation of annual community events
such as Community Trash-Off, Earth Week, Eco-Fest, Autumn Fair, and
more
-Assist with training and coordination of over 200 volunteers

Qualifications/Skills
-Undergraduate degree in environmental education, environmental
science, or similar degree.
-Certification in First Aid and CPR valid through May 31, 2013
-Working knowledge of MS office programs on a PC (not a Mac)
-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Written and oral communication skills are a must.
-Criminal background check and drug screening required before
employment
-nowledge of upkeep and maintenance of reptiles and amphibians in
terrariums and freshwater aquariums a plus
