Organization Overview

The World Resources Institute (WRI) seeks an intern with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills to assist with the sustainability initiative. The sustainability initiative’s goal is to improve the sustainability of WRI’s own operations, which includes meeting the targets we have set to reduce our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.

The Internship Offers:

The internship can be full (40 hours/week) or part time depending on availability and qualifications. The average duration is 3- 6 months depending on availability and schedule, with the possibility of extension depending on performance, project needs, and funding. The start date is flexible, but an earlier start date is preferred.

Responsibilities

Partner with the Sustainability Manager to:
• Help develop and implement reduction and communication strategies around our three GHG reduction targets: business travel, energy use, and other scope 3 emissions
• Perform GHG inventory calculations, which includes using excel-based tools and managing large quantities of data
• Help organize and record minutes during meetings (1-2 per month on average)
• Research best practices and innovative approaches for improved sustainability
• Provide additional administrative support as needed

Qualifications/Skills

• Bachelors degree in environmental management, engineering, public administration, public policy, or related field. Master’s degree or working towards a Master’s degree a plus
• Knowledge of GHG accounting, with experience developing corporate GHG inventories based on the GHG Protocol and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) a plus
• Experience with MS-Excel and strong quantitative skills
• Excellent research, analytical, writing, and organizational skills
• Strong problem solving ability
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Motivated and proactive

Benefits

$12 – $15 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. No benefits.
