Organization Overview

New York State Senator Daniel Squadron is currently accepting resumes for a spring 2012 legislative fellow for his Manhattan office. Senator Squadron is an aggressive champion of reform in Albany, affordable housing in New York City, a top-notch education system and investment in environmentally friendly transportation among other priorities. At 32, he is the second-youngest member of the New York State Senate. His district includes Lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn. Senator Squadron’s Lower Manhattan District Office is located at 250 Broadway, near City Hall.

Responsibilities

Major responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Researching and tracking legislation that the Senator might be interested in co-sponsoring
  • Working with Bill Drafting and Senate Revision to allow for proper introduction of legislation
  • Briefing the Senator on a specific legislative agenda
  • Drafting internal memos and doing policy development
  • Meeting with constituents of the 25th Senate district
  • Assisting with constituent correspondence
  • Basic office/administrative work

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have completed at least one year of law school or a relevant masters program, possess excellent research ability, and will demonstrate strong analytic and writing skills. The candidate must also have strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and be a self-starter. Strong preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in an elected official’s office or with a legislature.
