Description

NRG Solar, LLC, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc, is seeking a student intern to support the solar development team based in Carlsbad, CA.  The development team is focused on the siting, permitting and development of solar project sites through to construction to deliver on the company’s investment and development plans.  The focus of this position will be on assessing market opportunities and assisting in the development activities of our projects in the Southwest Region.   The intern will work independently and be expected to meet on a regular basis with senior management in Carlsbad, CA.  Additional travel obligations may require attendance at project sites and stakeholder meetings including utilities, local government and public outreach in CA and the Southwest Region.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analysis of power markets to assess potential for new project opportunities
  • Conducting due diligence with respect to potential project acquisitions
  • Assisting with preparation of bid responses for utility Request for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Execution and review of necessary development agreements (BLM filings, land agreements, transmission interconnection, etc.)
  • Assisting with the permitting process including research and review of permitting and regulatory requirements
  • Coordination of internal and external resources (engineering, legal, finance, external consultants, etc.)
  • Creating and refining project financial models
  • Creating and reviewing internal reports as necessary including project budgets, schedules and status summaries
  • Assisting with outreach and community support activities
  • Other project development activities as required

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Business, Environmental or related studies
  • Ability to attend stakeholder meetings and travel to project sites including utilities, local government and to do public outreach in CA and the Southwest Region.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in the energy industry, particularly renewable energy
  • Must also be a self-starter, highly organized and able to work independently in a dynamic deal-based environment.
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks
