The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading national nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks an intern for its Industry Program, to work in industrial energy efficiency policy and combined heat and power, in Seattle, Washington. ACEEE is dedicated to advancing and deploying energy efficiency technologies, policies, and programs as a means of promoting economic prosperity, energy security, and environmental protection.
Description
The internship will focus on supporting ACEEE’s Industry Team in researching the combined heat and power (CHP) chapter of The ACEEE 2012 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard. The methodology for the CHP chapter of the State Scorecard has been updated this year and the intern will work to help fill in data for several new categories and provide numeric rankings that will be included in the overall rank of a state’s CHP policies. The intern will be credited as a co-author of the CHP chapter in one of our largest and most popular reports.
Responsibilities
- Completion of research to populate 2 – 3 policy categories of rankings within the larger CHP chapter and a full understanding of the particular policies assigned.
- Providing numeric rankings that will be included in the overall rank of a state’s CHP policies.
- Helping staff collect new data points, for the CHP Scorecard Chapter, that have never been collected before.
- Calling and interviewing public utility commission and, utility staff to collect and verify information.
- Learn about CHP policy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably working towards an advanced degree in a relevant academic area.
- Interest in and familiarity with energy efficiency policies and/or sustainability policies strongly preferred, but not required. A strong interest in learning about energy policy is required.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient technologies and combined heat and power (CHP) preferred, but not required.
- Strong research abilities required. Experience researching legal and regulatory filings, and conducting phone interviews is strongly preferred.
- Strong writing and oral communication skills required.
- Self-motivation and ability to manage multiple assignments (as needed), strong attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.
