Organization Overview

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provides leadership in a partnership effort to help America’s private landowners and managers conserve their soil, water, and other natural resources.  NRCS employees provide technical assistance based on sound science and suited to a customer’s specific needs.

Responsibilities

This trainee/intern position is a developmental position designed to provide training in the application of public affairs. The student will work with the Public Affairs Officer and Specialist, performing a wide variety of duties tailored to the specific discipline the student is pursuing (I.e. Public Affairs, etc.).

MAJOR DUTIES:

Assisting the Public Affairs Specialist with:

  • desigining, creating and developing materials for displays and exhibits
  • designing, writing, editing and distributing materials for use by the media
  • desiging and producing products that include photographs, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, table, charts, posters, fact sheets, pamphlets and brochures using computer programs

Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school or university.

To be eligible for grade GS-03 applicant must have completed 1 academic year of post-high school study ( 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours)

To be eligible for grade GS-04 applicant must have completed 2 academic years of post-high school study (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours).

Applicants must submit a copy of College transcripts as part of initial application process. Failure to provide proper documentation will impact employment.

This vacancy is seeking students who are currently enrolled in Agricultural Communications, Visual Communications, Audio Visual/Media Communications, Graphic Arts, or related degrees.
