Organization Overview

WASTE, advisers on urban environment, is a non-governmental, urban environment consulting and programme
management organisation located in Gouda, the Netherlands. Our mission is to promote the improvement of the
lives and living condition of poor people in low- and middle income countries.

Description

WASTE is currently looking for an enthusiastic intern to support the Solid Waste Team in the implementation of the project “Municipal Reconstruction in Les Palmes region in Haiti”. The intern will be involved in a number of exciting as well as challenging activities. The activities involve modelling of solid waste collection systems, commissioning two temporary landfill sites and various training tasks. The intern will be working with the project team in Gouda for 4 – 5 days a week, with the possibility of spending four to six months in the field. Alternatively, we could attract two interns. One of these to be placed in Les Palmes and the other to work in the WASTE office in Gouda.

Qualifications

  • be enrolled in a MSc, MA or PhD programme for which an internship is either required or optional
  •  have experience with developing basic logistical and planning models in excel
  • have a high level of fluency in French and English with a focus on writing
  • preferably have at least one other work or study related experience in a low income country
  • have excellent communication skills and be able to interact in a multi cultural environment
  • have advanced knowledge of MS word and MS excel

Desirable skills:

  • self-starter, self-reliant and a good ability to work independently and keep deadlines
  •  experience in interacting with the public sector
  • experience in working in developing countries
  • willingness to live and work in Haiti for a short period of time
