Organization Overview

he mission of the City and County of San Francisco Department of the Environment (SF Environment) is to promote innovative policies and programs to protect the urban and natural environment, promote social equity and expand the green economy. SF Environment includes Energy, Zero Waste, Toxics Reduction, Environmental Justice, Clean Air Transportation, Climate Change, Green Building, Urban Forest and Public Information Programs. The Energy Program works with the Mayor’s office, other City departments and the private sector to maximize the energy efficiency of businesses and residences, develop renewable energy resources in San Francisco, and reduce San Francisco’s contribution to global climate change.

Description

The Solar Program Coordinator will assist the Renewable Energy Manager in performing professional level work promoting solar energy and other renewable energy technologies in the residential, commercial and non-profit sectors. The Solar Program Coordinator will provide general assistance to the Renewable Energy Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with planning and implementation tasks in renewable energy programs in the private sectors of the City;
  • Overseeing day-to-day management and implementation of solar grant awards and projects;
  • Participating in renewable energy policy discussions and development at the local and state levels;
  • Generating research studies, reports, and other written materials;
  • Assisting in the preparation of grant proposals;
  • Monitoring projects and the work of contractors hired by the Department;
  • Collecting, managing and analyzing renewable energy market data;
  • Liaising with solar industry, government officials, and community stakeholders;
  • Organizing trainings, forums, and workshops for private sector energy professionals;
  • Presenting information to the public, and responding to inquiries and complaints regarding services;
  • Developing and disseminating program outreach including maintaining web information and material directories;
  • Providing administrative support and performing other tasks as requested or required by the program.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in public administration, business administration, environmental sciences or a related field (within the Energy specialty area) from an accredited college or university; AND one (1) year of full time equivalent experience performing duties described for this class;
  • Must have valid California Driver’s License;

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of renewable energy, energy management, and environmental principles;
  • Responsible, motivated, and able to work independently and in a team;
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, database, and Internet proficiency.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar America Cities and SunShot initiatives and/or federal funding procedures;
  • Experience with solar technologies, installations, site assessment, and/or financing;
  • Understanding of barriers to urban renewable energy deployment;
  • Excellent project management, writing, researching, and organizational skills;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with San Francisco;
  • Fluency in another language used commonly in San Francisco.
