Description

WRI’s Climate and Energy Program (CEP) seeks a U.S. Climate Policy Intern to work on U.S. energy efficiency and climate change policy through research and analysis on policy design options and implications. WRI’s domestic climate and energy policy work focuses on analysis to help design and implement a comprehensive environmentally-effective, economically-efficient program with robust complementary policies and state-and-regional engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Qualitative and quantitative research on U.S. industry energy use and emissions (60% of time)
    • Data gathering and spreadsheet modeling of sub-sector energy use and emissions
    • National and state-level analysis of efficiency and emissions mitigation policies
  • Assist in the production of publications including drafting, review, layout, and dissemination (20% of time)
  • Assist in program administration and organization (20% of time)
    • Assist in the facilitation of technical working group meetings by convening meetings and conference calls, preparing meeting agendas, preparing meeting summaries, etc.
    • Assist in fundraising activities including preparing funding proposals
    • Assist in organizing workshops
    • Assist with day-to-day project management tasks, such as coordinating meetings and conference calls

Qualifications

  • Relevant coursework or recently completed degree in environmental sciences, energy engineering, public policy, economics, or related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of energy efficiency or climate change Preferably a Masters degree in a relevant field
  • Preferably an equivalent of 1 years of professional work experience related to climate, energy or environmental policy analysis.
  • Preferably experience and knowledge of U.S. manufacturing processes, including energy-use technologies
  • Excellent research, writing, organization, and communications skills
  • Attention to detail and high level of organization
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to self-motivate, stay organized, and work both independently and as part of a team
