Restore America’s Estuaries (RAE) is the country’s leading non-profit conservation organization dedicated to preserving the nation’s network of estuaries by protecting and restoring the lands and waters essential to the richness and diversity of coastal life. Restore America’s Estuaries is an alliance of eleven community-based organizations representing our nation’s greatest estuaries and works closely with Congress and Federal agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Description

Restore America’s Estuaries is seeking an organized and enthusiastic intern to assist with legislative and advocacy activities. This will include but is not limited to: research on public policy options and potential advocates, monitoring legislative activity (covering Congressional hearings, analyzing legislation and/or proposed rules, and coordinating letter drops to Hill offices), organizing and maintaining relevant media clip files, meeting preparations, and drafting internal and external communication materials.

The Intern will report directly to the Director of Government Relations but will also collaborate with other key staff in the organization including but not limited to the Development Associate, Communications Specialist, and the President. The ideal candidate would have full-time availability and willing to make a 3-month commitment.

Responsibilities

  • Contact Congressional offices to garner support for federal restoration programs
  • Update Congressional contact information
  • Write and update advocacy content on the RAE website
  • Communicate regularly with appropriate staff as to status of goals and objectives
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current student in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Experience writing and editing general correspondence.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience using MS Office, Word, Excel and navigating the Internet.
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy relating to the environment.
  • Interns should be able to offer at a minimum, 20 hours per week for 3 months. Start and end dates are flexible.
