Description

This position is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the NeighborWorks national program with a goal of advancing environmental responsibility and sustainability throughout the community development industry — in the operations of organizations, for the homes that are built and managed, and for the residents and communities that are served. The VISTA will be one of many AmeriCorps VISTA members working around the country to build organizational capacity in “greening” our operations. REACH’s VISTA will assist us in coordinating our efforts and ensuring that our green practices are documented and sustainably implemented throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

The Program Assistant will work with the Programs, Property Management, and Asset Management departments to:

  • Customize existing green manuals for the new Gray’s Landing project and for other recent developments as needed.
  • Develop a “Green Orientation” for new residents.
    • Review and edit the curriculum for our Healthy Homes classes. Design outreach materials and specific focuses for diverse populations.
    • Create regular “green tips” column for resident newsletter. Create a system for filing and storing materials for building specific newsletters.
    • Work with Community Builders program to ensure that green standards are used consistently with all staff. Review materials and supplies and assessment tools.

Identify local organizations and businesses with a green focus and develop a plan for maintenance and CBP to fully utilize companies with green practices.

  • Edit the Asset Management green policies.
  • Review and edit all department policies for consistency across departments.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to organize and synthesize materials.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to tailor written materials to diverse audiences.
    • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows.
    • Preferred proficiency in Spanish or Russian.
    • Strong interest in green and sustainable practices.
