Organization Overview

The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) seeks a Policy Associate to join its U.S. climate change and air quality team, located in Washington, D.C. Since 1985, CCAP has been a recognized world leader in climate and air quality policy and is the only independent, non-profit think-tank working exclusively on those issues at the local, national and international levels. CCAP helps policymakers around the world to develop, promote and implement innovative, market-based solutions to major climate, air quality and energy problems that balance both environmental and economic interests.

Description

The Policy Associate will be responsible for conducting research and analysis on climate policy, specifically focusing on industrial energy efficiency, industrial modernization and electricity markets. S/he will also support CCAP’s U.S. Climate Policy Initiative Dialogue, a multi-stakeholder forum involving industry leaders, environmental groups and state and federal government officials. S/he will report to the Manager of Energy, Air Quality & Climate Policy Dialogue. This position affords tremendous opportunity to participate in the development of cutting edge climate change policy work.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and analysis on industrial energy efficiency, industrial modernization, and electric utility markets related to climate change policies.
• Help assess the relative impact of different types of policy incentives to example industrial efficiency projects.
• Prepare high quality written deliverables such as policy reports, memos, presentations, and outreach materials.
• Work and liaise with outside technical and policy consultants/experts.
• Provide meeting support for the Climate Policy Initiative Dialogue, policy briefings, and other stakeholder meetings.
• Participate in fund-raising and relationship building efforts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-5 years of work experience in related policy issues within an NGO, government and/or corporate environment.
• BA/BS degree, with Master’s degree preferred, in public policy, economics, business, or a related field.
• Experience in industrial energy efficiency, electricity markets, manufacturing processes and energy policy more broadly.
• Excellent research and quantitative skills required.
• Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders in the government, NGO, and private sectors.
• Self-motivation and ability to work independently and think critically.

This position is available immediately and will be initially a one-year contract with the possibility to transition to a permanent position subject to availability of funding and overall success of the program. Salary range is $45,000 – $55,000 depending on individual’s qualifications.
