Description
American Bird Conservancy (ABC) is the only conservation group whose sole mission is to conserve native wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. ABC accomplishes its mission through direct action and by engaging the people, groups, resources, and strategies needed to succeed. It undertakes the full spectrum of bird conservation issues using advocacy and habitat conservation strategies. ABC is seeking an intern to produce a white paper that will discuss the Global Climate Change (GCC) issues that ABC may be facing on our projects, and assess whether there is a need to address those issues on any or all projects, and if so, make recommendations on how ABC should move ahead to begin addressing the issues.
Responsibilities
Compile information from published sources on what changes are expected at ABC project sites by climate model projections and predictions of the impacts of GCC on birds. **Using this information, he or she will evaluate the likely impact of GCC on species and regions where ABC has projects or interest. Location, Duration and Pay: Location is in the ABC office in The Plains, VA. Hours would be 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and the internship would require 2½ months. The internship will be paid $500/month as a stipend.
Qualifications
Education Requirement: This internship requires applicants to have one to three years of courses at the college or university level, and an interest in bird conservation and environmental science. Knowledge/Skills Requirement: This internship requires applicants to have the knowledge and ability to write clearly and concisely, think critically, and to use Microsoft Office Suite.
