Organization Overview

The OSM/VISTA Teams, a dynamic, award winning partnership between the Office of Surface Mining, AmeriCorps, and local community organizations, are looking for a responsible, energetic individual to fill our open Grants Coordinator position. The OSM/VISTA Teams’ core support staff work hard to expand the Teams’ community outreach. The Grants Coordinator would work with them by identifying and proposing fundraising goals for the OSM/VISTA Teams, responding to new opportunities, working on grant proposal writing, coordinating development efforts, and evaluating the OSM/VISTA Teams and their initiatives.

Responsibilities

· Report to OSM/VISTA Teams Coordinator and SCC Executive Director of Inter-regional Initiatives
· Coordinate with the OSM/VISTA Team Directors and staff in Beckley, WV, Durango, CO, and Albuquerque NM and SCC Development Director in Durango, CO
· Research grant-making organizations & analyze them to identify likely funding sources for specific OSM/VISTA Teams general operations, special initiatives & programs, including Grants Coordinator salary & benefits, coordinating work with the SCC Development Director
· Compile, write & edit grant proposals & applications exhibiting strong expository writing skills & a high-level command of grammar & spelling, following exactly each grant-making organization’s guidelines
· Create proposal budgets & make recommendations for best presentation of budgets to funders
· Maintain contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application & be responsive to funder requests
· Manage the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project or program
· Develop & Coordinate Support Offices grant-writing efforts
· Track grants across the Teams
· Review all proposals before submission
· Establish program evaluation methodology for new projects & initiatives, & a quarterly reporting process to measure grant program successes & challenges
· Supports team development for major initiatives
· Attend both Team Bi-annual trainings to present on topics such as prospect research, proposal writing, evaluation, reporting, etc

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years experience in nonprofit development.
· Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate grant-writing and development efforts.
· Proven organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage time and multiple projects effectively.
· The ability to interact credibly and diplomatically with all levels in the OSM/VISTA and SCC organizations and the external community – tailoring communication effectively for different groups and stakeholders.
· An open, inclusive, team-oriented work style, conflict resolution and team building skills helpful.
· Bachelors Degree required, Masters preferred.
· Valid driver’s license and good driving record
· Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PPT, various grant data bases.
· Ability to manage time and multiple projects effectively
