Description
The Climate Change Adviser will report to the Executive Director of Islands First and assist in our support of the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) in the context of the international climate change negotiations.

Responsibilities
- Providing professional support and technical advice on climate change to representatives of small island developing states
- Drafting statements, briefing documents, UNFCCC submissions, and presentations
- Undertaking general research on climate change
- Attending UNFCCC negotiations and other related meetings (travel required)
- Other related tasks as identified by the Executive Director
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Advanced degree in a relevant field
- 3-5 years experience working on climate change issues
- In depth knowledge of the UNFCCC negotiations
- Specialized knowledge on mitigation issues of the negotiations, including LULUCF, markets and flexible mechanisms
- Knowledge of and/or experience working with Small Island Developing States
- Excellent communication skills (speaking and writing), including the ability to convey complex concepts to policymakers clearly and concisely
- Discretion and sound judgment in applying expertise to resolve complex and/or politically sensitive issues in a diplomatic environment
