Mission Statement

Since Japan’s entry into the UN in 1956, the Mission has represented the Government of Japan in conducting diplomacy to achieve its foreign policy goals. We remain deeply committed to the UN’s efforts to ensure peace and stability throughout the world.

Issue Areas – Action Issues

The Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations represents the Government of Japan and is working towards the realization of several goals on behalf of the Government of Japan. These include:

  1. Contribution to the maintenance of international peace and security through the United Nations
  2. Peaceful solution of conflicts, and achievement of practical disarmament and non-proliferation
  3. Promotion of the UN development agenda, and approaches to environmental issues
  4. Enhancement of the engagement in human rights, humanitarian, women’s and social issues
  5. Early realization of United Nations reform, including Security Council reform
  6. Promotion of human security
  7. Enhancement of fiscal discipline and management reform in the United Nations
  8. Increasing the number of Japanese nationals as staff of the United Nations Secretariat and other UN organizations
