Organization Overview:
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading national nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks an intern for its Buildings Program to work in the areas outlined below. ACEEE act as a catalyst to advance energy efficiency policies, programs, technologies, investments, and behaviors.
Description:
This full-time summer internship position will focus on assisting and contributing to two projects for the ACEEE Buildings Program
- The intern will work on a project to identify the best practices for achieving large energy savings from commercial and residential retrofit programs. The intern will assist in analyzing and summarizing retrofit program offering results and describing preliminary findings regarding best practices based on these programs’ experiences. The intern will be credited as an author on the ACEEE publication resulting as an outcome of this project.
- The intern will support ongoing outreach and campaign support for the 2015 IECC Building Energy Codes. The candidate will help support and coordinate with other organizations active in building efficiency, to identify prospective jurisdictions and code officials who can be targeted for pro-efficiency messaging at public hearings on energy building codes. The successful candidate will gain extensive experience conducting research on building retrofit programs as well as the Building Energy Code development process. In addition, the intern will be exposed to a variety of organizations all working to advance energy efficiency in buildings.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research to identify, summarize, and classify energy efficiency retrofit programs.
- Work with ACEEE staff to identify best practices for building retrofit programs in states based on building types and savings achieved.
- Assist in analyzing opportunities for increasing savings from commercial retrofits and quantify potential incremental savings from ‘deeper’ retrofits.
- Prepare a prospect database for the code advocacy project.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required, preferably working towards an advanced degree in a relevant academic area
- Interest in and familiarity with a range of energy efficiency policies and/or local level sustainability policies strongly preferred. Familiarity with energy efficiency technologies preferred, but not required.
- Strong Internet and interview-based research ability required. Experience researching utility programs and policy strongly preferred.
- Strong writing and oral communication skills required.
- Self-motivation and ability to manage multiple assignments, work efficiently, and meet deadlines required.
