Description:

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is hiring a Director, Annual Fund (Catalyst Circle). This is a newly created position that will be responsible for designing and developing a high-touch program that moves donors up the giving pyramid. S/he will manage a portfolio of donors and prospects who are giving $5,000 and up. A key component of this program will be to accelerate the process of qualifying donors and prospects and ensure they are receiving the proper stewardship to maximize their giving to EDF. The Director will have bottom line responsibility for achieving budget goals and other metrics for this program. The success of the program will be evaluated by:
• Number of new recruits to the program
• Revenue generated
• Degree to which the program acts as a feeder track to the Major Gift Program
The overall goal is to increase the number of donors and the revenue stream from the program, with a short term metric of increasing the number of donors by 20% in the first 18 months. The Director, Annual Fund (Catalyst Circle) will report to Associate Vice President, Major Gifts.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement a vision and plan for the Catalyst Circle program that will inspire donors to engage with the organization and give generously
• Manage the Catalyst Circle program for the effective qualification, stewardship and solicitation of donors including: donor qualification meetings, regular mailings, personal treatment strategies, cultivation and retention events, email communications, donor teleconference calls and other tools
• Understand and communicate EDF’s complex programs effectively to donors
• Work with Program and Development staff to qualify every donor in the portfolio and design a matching treatment plan
• Proactively design and implement strategic treatment options and schedules to renew, upgrade and retain donor segments within this portfolio, working closely with the Membership department and major gift portfolio managers
• Partner with Prospect Research and others in the organization to identify prospects for the program, then collaborate with other team members to attract, cultivate and transform these prospects into Catalyst Circle donors
• Develop increasing financial goals for the Catalyst Circle program and ensure they are met
• Track and record all relevant information in EDF’s database
• Design and produce reports and analysis on donor revenue, demographic trends and other performance measures as necessary
• Work closely with membership department to ensure seamless treatment of donors

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• Several years of demonstrated success as a front- line fundraiser
• Track record of strategically growing a development program
• A commitment to Environmental Defense Fund’s mission and values
• A proactive strategic thinker with the knowledge and willingness to move donors up the giving pyramid
• Ability and motivation to work as part of a team while being entrepreneurial and autonomous
• Strong communication skills, including excellent writing ability
• Ability to navigate and be successful in a complex organization; adept at being flexible and nimble
• Creativity, energy, integrity and personal and professional confidence
• Knowledge of and ability to use fundraising databases
