Organization Overview:

The Alliance for Green Heat promotes high-efficiency wood combustion as a carbon neutral, sustainable, local and affordable heating solution. As the renewable, low carbon heating fuel of choice for rural Americans, the Alliance seeks to make thermal biomass a key part of national and state renewable energy plans. The Alliance for Green Heat works with environmental and forest organizations, air quality experts, the wood and pellet stove industry and others in the wood burning community to educate the public, the media, and local, state and national policymakers about the potential of wood and pellet heat and its applications to low and middle income populations.

Description:

Takoma Park-based nonprofit the Alliance for Green Heat is seeking program fellows to do research and policy work on residential scale renewable heating and to help manage a high-profile wood stove technology competition that will be held on the National Mall in November 2013. Duties will include research and advocacy on local, state and national policy; helping to manage stakeholders in an international design competition including the judges, the teams, federal and state partners and the media; helping to manage event logistics and volunteers.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate who is looking to gain experience in renewable energy, energy policy and technology innovation. Background in renewable energy, climate change, government relations, poverty issues, engineering is desired but not required. Applicants from wood-burning and/or low-income areas are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and Internet researching skills
  • Event planning and/or marketing experience a plus
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Understanding of social media platforms
  • Interest in innovative technology and renewable energy
