Description:

The Delaware Bay Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing our Celebrate Delaware Bay campaign and its collaborative strategies for conservation of shorebird species and their habitats in Delaware Bay. The Coordinator will build support for this conservation through collaborations with all sectors, including with those involved with site-management, research, and monitoring, and especially public outreach and education via social marketing.

The Delaware Bay Program Coordinator reports to the Director of the Shorebird Recovery Project. Travel within the Delaware Bay region is required as an integral part of the job. Exact location of the position within the Delaware Bay region is flexible.

Responsibilities:

To achieve these objectives, the coordinator will work in close and frequent collaboration with local, national and international NGOs, decision-makers, scientists and the donor community, be they individuals, corporations or foundations.

With core conservation partners and relevant agencies, the coordinator will:

1. Develop an understanding of the numerous stakeholder constituencies, their values and their interests.
2. Continue and expand the Delaware Bay Conservation Leaders program.
3. Strengthen programs to rescue stranded horseshoe crabs.
4. Launch the N.J. Association of Delaware Bayshore Communities.
5. Continue and expand the Delaware Bay Conservation Connection (social media communication network).
6. Create an agreement and workplan for cooperation among Bayshore nature centers to serve as information loci about horseshoe crabs and shorebirds.
7. Continue and expand the network of partners and agencies working toward a healthy Delaware Bay to include “non-traditional” partners such as sportsmen’s associations, farming and agricultural interests, small and local businesses, and faith-based groups.
8. Coordinate the interests and visions of these many partners around positive common-ground messages so that the network can speak with one voice, in the coordination and implementation of the campaign brand and message.

Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated ability in:

• Building and maintaining consensus among coalitions of disparate participants
• Social marketing and online community management
• Working autonomously as a highly motivated self-starter
• Conservation and management of natural resource

2. Bachelor’s degree and three years’ related experience required. Bachelor’s or higher degree in communication, biology, natural resource management, sociology, or other relevant field and five or more years of relevant experience preferred.

3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

4. Other desirable qualifications include:

• Fluency in Spanish
• Experience in the field of good governance
• Positive relationships with key stakeholders and actors in Delaware Bay
• An understanding of the natural history or shorebirds or another taxonomic group of birds.
