Description
Natural Resource Group, LLC (NRG) is seeking an entry-level Natural Resource Specialist with a background in soils and/or geology to join our Providence, Rhode Island office. This individual will assist primarily with energy-related capital development and compliance initiatives, including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission-regulated pipelines, midstream oil and gas projects, and electric transmission lines. These projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse, allowing a talented person to gain valuable task management skills and broad exposure to regulatory, public outreach, engineering, and right-of-way issues.
Responsibilities
The primary role of this position includes project technical support which may include, but is not limited to: assisting with field reconnaissance and survey efforts and site visits to collect data; preparing permit applications where required by federal, state or local environmental regulatory authorities for energy facility development, expansion, maintenance or decommissioning; evaluating regulatory requirements; maintaining records of compliance with permit conditions; assisting with research and compilation of data in support of technical project documents obtained through web-based research, aerial photos, and survey reports; assisting with the preparation of technical project documents (e.g. Resource Reports, Environmental Impact Statements, Biological Assessments, etc.), including writing, word processing, building tables and spreadsheets, tabulating and manipulating data; maintaining mailing lists; assisting with the development of project plans and schedules; participating in agency consultations, client contacts and site visits; and assisting with the development of project management reporting, such as monthly progress reports.
Project work will involve travel (up to 25 percent of the time) for agency meetings, project team meetings, and/or to conduct site visits, environmental training, or field work.
Qualifications
Suitable candidates will possess at least a BS/BA degree and preferably a MS degree in a natural science field of study and up to 5 years of relevant work experience, including familiarity with soil and geologic resources, processes, and mapping (e.g., SSURGO data). Other assets will include a working knowledge of wetland delineations, environmental compliance and permitting, natural resources management agencies, and GPS technology. A thorough working knowledge of MS Office Suite software programs is necessary. Ideal candidates will possess strong oral and written communication skills, keen detail orientation, and recognized organizational abilities. Self-motivated, quick learning, flexible individuals who have a common-sense approach to conducting business and workload management will be most successful.
