Description
The Governance of Forests Initiative seeks to improve the participation, transparency, and responsiveness of government practices that impact forest land allocation and use in Brazil, Cameroon, and Indonesia, as well as globally though international instruments such as programs to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+). We produce knowledge on pressing forest governance challenges; generate constructive dialogue on how to improve governance of land and forests; and advance reforms from local to global arenas.
Responsibilities
The Institutions and Governance Program (IGP) at the World Resources Institute (WRI) is seeking an intern to provide research, communications, and administrative support to the Governance of Forests Initiative (GFI) project. In particular, the position will assist the GFI team in their efforts to ensure that national and international REDD+ programs are designed to promote more accountable forest governance practices. The position responsibilities include:
- Conduct background research on forest governance topics
- Draft of communications and training materials about the GFI Indicator Framework
- Assist with administrative tasks such as conference planning and publications support as needed
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in forestry, environmental policy, social science, international affairs, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
- Familiarity with the forest sector, principles of good governance, and experience working on REDD+ issues (e.g., social and environmental safeguards, readiness) are highly preferred.
- Strong research skills, including social science research methods.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and prioritize among competing demands.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Knowledge of an additional language (French, Portuguese, or Bahasa Indonesian) is a plus.
- Research Experience in a developing country is a plus.
