Position Title:  Summer Programs Coordinator

Location: Nantucket, MA

Hours & Compensation: $5000 plus housing on Nantucket

Summary: 
The Summer Programs Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Director of Education in the coordination and marketing of all public education programs provided by MMA including Discovery Camp, the Naturalist Leadership Program, Astronomy Education, and other environmental education opportunities for children and adults.

Responsibilities: 
•Help coordinate and facilitate training for the Discovery Camp’s Environmental Education Instructors
•Work closely with the Education Director to schedule and implement staff and activity schedules for Discovery Camp, Astronomy Education, Birthday Parties, and other public programs
•Assist the Education Director with evaluating and supporting instructors by observing programs, assisting with waterfront supervision, reviewing lesson plans and other necessary tasks needed to enhance the Discovery Camp’s programs
•Serve as a lifeguard during waterfront camp activities
•Perform regular reviews of existing programs and revise and/or change programs as needed
•Motivate staff around the Education Department’s objectives
•Develop example lesson plans for Environmental Education Instructors
•Assist in completing participant registrations and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner
•Assist in the development and monitoring of program budgets
•Purchase, track, and inventory equipment needed for programs and ensure proper equipment use by instructors
• Participate in and promote MMA events and programs outside of the education department
•Identify emerging needs and assist the Director in developing plans to respond as needed
•Be the primary instructor for the Naturalist Leadership Program
•Fill in as a Discovery Camp instructor as needed
Education/Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and at least 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
•Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certification or willingness to be certified (provided by MMA)
•Prior supervisory experience is preferred
•Experience in youth programming and lesson plan development in a camp or other outdoor educational environment
•Ability to multi-task and efficiently perform required duties
•Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
•Strong organizational skills and experience with detail-oriented tasks required
•Enjoyment working in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to move, stand, and walk frequently, with or without accommodation
•To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and the ability to learn registration database software
•Fun, outgoing personality and willingness to work outside in inclement weather and occasionally at night and on weekends
•Preferred background in environmental education, astronomy, or earth sciences

Dates of Employment: 
Applicant must be available from May 27, 2014 through August 25, 2014
