Position Title: Clean Energy Digital Organizer

Location: Washington, DC

Hours and Compensation: Full-time; Salary for this position is $24,000 for entry level and/or commensurate with experience. Environment America offers a competitive benefits package.

Description: To build the clean energy future we need, we must raise the profile of clean energy, highlight the benefits, and get more people more engaged in holding our leaders accountable for moving America toward a 100% clean energy future. Environment America seeks a committed and creative person with a good strategic sense, top notch writing skills, and digital savvy to manage the online aspects of our clean energy campaigns.

Responsibilities: You will work closely with the clean energy program team, including advocates and organizers and the digital organizing team at the Public Interest Network, a nationwide network of nonprofit groups dedicated to bringing people together in the fight for a greener America, a more democratic America, and a government that works for all of us, not just powerful corporations.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Visibility: Developing and shaping the public narrative for our online work on clean energy campaigns; including social media, email and our websites.

Test and develop email campaigns that successfully educate and mobilize our supporters.

Post, monitor, and respond to our social channels to support the campaigns and organize our supporters. Create posts for our staff in the states. Respond to and engage with our on-line supporters daily.

Write and develop content for our websites and blogs that reinforce our clean energy story.

  1. List growth and audience development: You’ll grow our list of clean energy supporters through organic acquisition, and increase both social reach and active list percentage by developing creative campaign actions, reactivation campaigns, and on-boarding series.
  1. Fundraising: Write strong fundraising emails that mobilize our supporters to fund our clean energy campaigns; including proposing potential campaign tactics and working with the program team to incorporate them into the campaign plans.
  1. Relationship building: Develop and cultivate relationships with people and organizations who will share our content and collaborate with us on building our lists and our on-line power.

Get key influencers and other organizations to share our content with their networks.

Work with other groups to develop ‘chaperoned’ email campaigns to grow our list and reach.

  1. Mobilize our supporters offline: Work with campaign organizers and state directors to recruit our online supporters to get involved offline by attending events and volunteering.

Create and maintain basic online event pages and materials like sign-up forms and Facebook events.

Assist with targeting and email delivery for recruitment emails written by campaign staff.

  1. Tracking and Analysis: Compile data and report back to the program team and digital organizing teams about the results of your work.
  1. Building the Public Interest Network’s Digital Organizing Team:

Recruiting staff and interns.

Internal communications, weekly posts for the Public Interest Networks staff intranet site.

Run and participate in trainings for Environment America staff and other organizations in the Public Interest Network.

Qualifications:

Excellent Writing Skills: Experience in a job or volunteer campaign involving advocacy or sales/marketing. Design skills a plus.

Creativity: Ability to anticipate opportunities and problems, brainstorm solutions, propose and decide on a course of action, and follow through. You can stick to a plan; while being nimble and opportunistic.

Commitment to a better world: A track record of caring about what’s wrong in this world and acting on it. Campaign organizing experience preferred.

People Skills: You’ll be working with our advocacy and organizing staff, our in-house communications staff, state directors, colleagues in the other Public Interest Network organizations along with allies, vendors and others.

Time Management: Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet tight timelines.
