Description: Be the leader of a team of analysts and communications professionals evaluating climate change vulnerability and readiness in all 50 states. Produce a series of original, newsworthy, influential reports designed to generate substantial media coverage and inform the public debate on climate change impacts, vulnerability and preparedness.
Climate Central is looking for a strong, energetic, enterprising State Program Director. Top candidates will have experience in climate science and policy research, incisive quantitative and analytical skills, and a record of creatively communicating science to the public and policy makers.
Responsibilities:
Lead major new state program initiative examining climate change vulnerability and preparedness
Design and direct a wide variety of data-driven, quantitative vulnerability and impacts assessments across multiple impacts in a number of different states
Produce a series of reports detailing the findings of these analyses
Work collaboratively with team of climate scientists, analysts, and communications professionals to ensure that the results of these analyses generate substantial media interest and meet communications and public education objectives
Develop relationships with influential scientists and other experts in key states
Represent the organization in key meetings and other fora and communicate the principle findings of the project to the media and other important audiences in the states and nationally
Oversee team of analysts and communications professionals. Responsible for hiring, training, goal-setting, and assessing performance of direct reports.
Qualifications:
MS or higher in climate science or related field
Eight to ten years management experience leading relevant research programs, demonstrating an increasing level of authority and leadership
Five years’ experience in climate science or closely related field
Experience in quantitative data analysis
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Must enjoy being part of a team in an entrepreneurial environment
