Description: Be the leader of a team of analysts and communications professionals evaluating climate change vulnerability and readiness in all 50 states. Produce a series of original, newsworthy, influential reports designed to generate substantial media coverage and inform the public debate on climate change impacts, vulnerability and preparedness.

Climate Central is looking for a strong, energetic, enterprising State Program Director. Top candidates will have experience in climate science and policy research, incisive quantitative and analytical skills, and a record of creatively communicating science to the public and policy makers.

Responsibilities:

  Lead major new state program initiative examining climate change vulnerability and preparedness

  Design and direct a wide variety of data-driven, quantitative vulnerability and impacts assessments across multiple impacts in a number of different states

  Produce a series of reports detailing the findings of these analyses

  Work collaboratively with team of climate scientists, analysts, and communications professionals to ensure that the results of these analyses generate substantial media interest and meet communications and public education objectives

  Develop relationships with influential scientists and other experts in key states

  Represent the organization in key meetings and other fora and communicate the principle findings of the project to the media and other important audiences in the states and nationally

  Oversee team of analysts and communications professionals. Responsible for hiring, training, goal-setting, and assessing performance of direct reports.

Qualifications:

  MS or higher in climate science or related field

  Eight to ten years management experience leading relevant research programs, demonstrating an increasing level of authority and leadership

  Five years’ experience in climate science or closely related field

  Experience in quantitative data analysis

  Strong written and verbal communications skills

  Must enjoy being part of a team in an entrepreneurial environment
