Description: Center for Whole Communities (CWC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual who is committed to our mission and values to serve as Urban Program Director. The responsibilities call for strong leadership, program development and management, a deep knowledge base of community engagement and urban conservation. Center for Whole Communities is specifically seeking to enhance its organizational diversity within the make-up of our staff. Responsibilities: The Urban Program Director will lead the implementation of the Center for Whole Communities’ urban leadership development program. The goal of the Urban Leadership Development program is to create a foundation, and then expand the CWC’s urban program work to cities across the U.S. actively linking and bridging with environmental and social sector organizations. This will involve working in partnership with the executive director to:
- Develop and implement a business plan for urban engagement of CWC alumnae/i.
- Develop and implement training curriculum for urban conservation leadership with a focus on cross-sector collaboration that is culturally sensitive, progressive, and addresses issues race, class and privilege in urban conservation work.
- Recruiting, developing, training, and managing an urban faculty team that is available to provide leadership development training for organizations and leaders doing urban conservation work.
This position can be held remotely, and does not need to be based in our Vermont headquarters.
Qualifications: Ideal Experience and Personal Characteristics
The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for, involvement in and/or commitment to social justice, environmental and community restoration, land and human health, and will have a high level of literacy and skill working with issues of racial and environmental justice. Candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in developing and delivering training programs.Program Management skills and leadership experience
- BA/BS degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in facilitation and program development
- Clear oversight, consistent follow-through, and ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks
- Experience coordinating a team and large groups. Experience with organizing information through databases and spreadsheets
- Self-directed, highly organized, great on details, and deadline-oriented
Community engagement and outreach
- High level of comfort and demonstrated experience and success in relationship building and partnership development with grassroots community groups.
- Advanced cultural competency level and demonstrated skill in working with diverse groups and bridging differences in a collaborative and progressive style.
- Strong communicator who is comfortable and effective by phone, email, and in person
Administrative skills and experience
- Experience with MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Experience with databases and spreadsheets a plus
- Ability to work alone and with a team
