Position Title: Intern Scholar

Location: Oakland, California

Dates and compensation: Internships can last anywhere from 3 months to 1 year. On average internships are between 20 to 40 hours per week; unpaid

Description: Our Intern Scholar Program focuses on developing and nurturing future scholars through providing opportunities to engage in challenging research, writing, and advocacy on a wide range of foreign and domestic policy issues. Our intern scholars are required to make tangible and timely contributions to the Institute’s projects, including reports or other media in addition to web-based and hard copy informational materials for public dissemination. Intern scholars also have opportunities to interact directly with OI fellows and staff.

Responsibilities: Intern Scholars are currently needed to support the following issues areas and activities:

Social Media
Research
Advocacy and Communications
Media  (Print, TV, and Radio)
Film making

Qualifications: Intern Scholars should have superior written and oral communication skills in English (good knowledge of Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and French is a plus), excellent analytical ability, and library and Internet research capabilities. They should be able to work reliably and responsibly as part of a team or individually. Applicants from any department or graduate program will be considered, although backgrounds in social science and economics are preferred. Undergraduates should have attained at least junior status in college and have a minimum of 12 months of combined work/volunteer experience (including summer work). Applicants who are not students must have two years of work experience, 1 year of which should have required the regular use of analytical and writing skills.
