Position Title: Communications and Development Intern

Location: Washington, DC

Dates and compensation: This is an intern position that will be paid with salary commensurate with experience and work schedule. The position is a minimum of three days a week in IMT’s Washington, D.C. office.

Description:  IMT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., with a mission to promote energy efficiency in buildings. Achieving that vision requires market transformation, a process of strategic intervention in the market to remove barriers to the broader adoption of energy efficiency in buildings. The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) seeks an intern to assist our communications and development team. She/he will be mentored by our Director of Communications and Grants Manager, and will engage in various digital, editorial, research, and administrative activities. Excellent writing and editing skills are required. A strong interest in the environment, energy policy and/or green buildings is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Expression Engine or WordPress is a plus, as is familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite programs. Please submit two writing samples with your resume.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and maintain IMT’s internal media and development tracking systems
  • Update and expand IMT’s press contact list
  • Actively contribute social media and blog postings for IMT’s main accounts and website
  • Perform IMT website content sweep (checking for dead links, grammar issues, and discrepancies, and optimizing SEO across IMT’s main site)
  • Build up and maintain IMT’s database of common metrics, statistics, images, charts, and graphs
  • Maintain and refine IMT’s calendar of events, seeking out forthcoming speaking opportunities
  • Assist in packaging media clips for grant-reporting purposes
  • Provide assistance as needed for the City Energy Project
  • Research and identify prospective funding opportunities
  • Video development, if interested

Qualifications:

  • Advanced undergraduate or graduate student with experience in communications and/or marketing
  • Ability to perform self-directed work, manage multiple projects, and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Interest in energy efficiency, green buildings, and preventing climate change
  • Enthusiasm, dedication, a sense of humor, and a drive to succeed
