Position Title: Environmental Analyst
Location: New York, New York
Dates and compensation: Salary range $52,000-$65,000, depending upon experience. Position may require two year city residency.
Description: The NYC Independent Budget Office, a nonpartisan city agency, is seeking an experienced budget and policy analyst for its environmental portfolio, including responsibility for examining the programs and funding of the city’s departments of Parks and Recreation, Sanitation, and Environmental Protection, as well as broader environmental and sustainability issues.
Qualifications: A successful candidate must be self-motivated, a critical and rigorous analyst of public policy questions, able to write clearly about complex policies, and have advanced quantitative and policy analytic skills. Commitment to impartial examination of public policies and spending is essential. Experience with large datasets and SAS (or similar statistical software) is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable interacting with public officials and agency staffs as well as civic and advocacy groups. Ability to work independently, juggle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines is critical. Candidates will preferably have knowledge of the city’s capital and expense budgets or previous experience researching and analyzing municipal budgets and services. A master’s degree in public administration, urban planning, public finance, business, economics, or a related field, along with two to five years’ experience, is preferred; equivalent work experience may substitute.
