Lake Champlain Boat Launch Stewards 
Lake Champlain – Vermont and New York

New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission and the Lake Champlain Basin Program are seeking several part-time boat launch stewards to deliver invasive species spread prevention messages to boaters on Lake Champlain during the summer of 2015.

Boat Launch Stewards will greet visitors to Lake Champlain and familiarize the public with invasive species information, while also gathering lake-user information. Stewards will be requested to work eight-hour days for approximately thirty-two hours per week at select boat launches around Lake Champlain from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Stewards will be required to work most weekends. Time off by prior arrangement can be accommodated during this period. Mandatory training will be held May 18-20, 2015 in Grand Isle, Vermont and Paul Smiths, New York.

Successful candidates will be well organized and have excellent communication skills, experience speaking with the public, demonstrated data collection and recording skills, and field work experience. Basic familiarity with boating, angling, and common recreational equipment will be useful. Highly motivated individuals with familiarity with invasive species and/or water recreation experience are encouraged to apply.

Lake Champlain GIS Intern
Grand Isle, Vermont

New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) are seeking an intern to assist the LCBP Education and Outreach team during the spring and summer of 2015.

The GIS Intern will assist with the redevelopment of the LCBP online atlas and may also work on additional GIS and cartography projects. This work will entail the collection, preparation, and evaluation of geospatial data sets. Tasks will also include the assembly of metadata and design of spatial data presentation. The intern will work roughly 20 hours a week April through September. Time off by prior arrangement can be accommodated.

The successful candidate will have experience working in ArcGIS and/or Q GIS, and will be familiar with one or more web mapping platform, such as Leaflet, Mapbox, or ArcGIS Online. Experience with web design, such as basic HTML programming, Dreamweaver, and/or WordPress is also highly desirable. The intern should also be comfortable working independently and with LCBP stakeholders with an interest in geospatial data. An active interest in the geography and water quality of the lake is also encouraged.

Lake Champlain Education and Outreach Intern
Grand Isle, Vermont

New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) are seeking an intern to assist the LCBP Education and Outreach team during the summer of 2015.

The Education and Outreach Intern will perform a variety of tasks, including representing LCBP at various public events, assisting staff at the Resource Room, located within ECHO at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain on the Burlington waterfront, and drafting text and visuals for Resource Room displays, the LCBP website, and other outreach materials. The intern may work up to forty (40) hour a week, with occasional evening and weekend hours,from May through September. Time off by prior arrangement can be accommodated.

The successful candidate will be well organized and have excellent written and oral communication skills, will have completed at least two years of higher education (or equivalent experience), will have experience interacting with the public, proficiency using Microsoft Office, and enthusiasm for teaching and learning about Lake Champlain. Skills in photography and use of Adobe Creative Suite are also highly desirable.

NEIWPCC – IEC District Intern, Summer 2015
Staten Island, Manhattan, and Port Washington, NY

The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the IEC District seek a Summer Intern to assist with water quality monitoring surveys in western Long Island Sound and the upper East River, as well as with other work at the IEC District Staten Island laboratory and Manhattan office. The intern will participate in boat-based surveys and use portable monitoring equipment to collect field measurements and ambient water samples. Duties will include laboratory analyses of water samples, and preparation of bottles, coolers, equipment, and quality control activities. The intern will also assist with the development of water quality monitoring database. The position will require 30-37.5 hours per week. The anticipated start date is June 15, 2015; and the position will extend for 12 to 14 weeks. Interviews will take place in February or early March, 2015.

The successful candidate will have a minimum 3 years of satisfactory progress towards a Bachelor’s Degree in the environmental sciences, biology, or a related field. Demonstrated field and laboratory experience is a plus, as well as experience with Microsoft Access and Excel, GIS software, and website maintenance.
