Position Title: Climate Change Vulnerability Fellow
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Dates and compensation: Fellows will work 40 hours per week during the summer of 2015 (May-August). Pay ranges from $15-$18/hour depending on student level and ability. Open to both upper-level undergraduate and graduate, MIT and non-MIT students.

Description: The MIT Office of Sustainability is seeking to hire a student Climate Change Vulnerability Fellow to support the research and planning needs of MIT’s climate preparedness efforts. The Fellow will assist in synthesizing and launching climate change related activities managed by the Office of Sustainability, primarily through research, writing, and implementation planning for a climate vulnerability assessment and preparedness planning for the MIT campus.
Responsibilities:
Provide research and implementation planning for a climate vulnerability assessment of the MIT campus
Conduct literature review and assessment of adaptation planning needs to minimize disruption to campus as a result of extreme weather events, heat, and flooding from storm surge
Assist in preparing a formal RFP for a climate vulnerability assessment
Ensure alignment between the Climate Vulnerability Assessment for the City of Cambridge and the needs and priorities of the MIT campus
Research and consider approaches for engaging individuals and departments across campus in the implementation of the assessment
Assist in developing preparedness and planning materials to ensure climate change risk is incorporated into emergency management processes
Perform data analysis and data collection
Research best practices for climate vulnerability assessment and climate preparedness, as applies to urban institutions
Provide support for documentation, outreach, and implementation as needed
Qualifications:
In addition to those listed at the top of the page, we seek candidates that have:
Strong interest and demonstrated experience in climate change risk, climate change adaptation, and climate change vulnerability in urban and institutional contexts
Experience and/or strong interest in climate change impacts in urban environments
Strong quantitative data collection, management, and analysis, including proficiency in Excel
