Description: Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct the search for a new Climate Program Director for our client, a well-respected and top wildlife conservation organization based in the Bay Area. This position is for direct-hire and will be based in Beijing, China.

The Climate Program Director will join a dynamic team of talented environmental activists and nonprofit professionals and will be responsible for leading the development of the China Climate Program, both thematically and financially. The China Climate Program aims to encourage individuals to reduce their carbon emissions by modifying their daily routines, thereby developing grass-roots support for overall climate policy change in China. The CPD is responsible for identifying program opportunities and strategies, cultivating and securing partnerships in China, driving program development and launch, as well as implementing evaluation tools to measure the campaign’s effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage sector knowledge and contacts to identify key program targets and partners; strategically develop target relationships to maximize program impact
  • Utilize the organization’s media strength and approach; fully embrace the power of the media to create awareness and excitement, cultivate partnerships, launch events, and develop new program ambassadors
  • Ensure all program initiatives are aligned with overall goals by introducing effective evaluation tools to accurately measure campaign results against program objectives
  • Provide timely and detailed reporting on program progress to funders, as well as develop supporting materials—including report and grant writing

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus
  • 5 years minimum program management experience in an international organization, with focus on climate change and relevant environmental issues in China
  • Self-motivated, proactive, entrepreneurial and independent—candidate must possess the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic and nimble start-up environment
  • A collaborator and team player, the ideal candidate is an excellent and proactive communicator, easily able to build and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • The ability to succeed in multicultural settings is a must; spoken Mandarin highly desirable
  • Must possess fundraising experience and the ability to cultivate relationships with senior-level stakeholders—including grant-making organizations and country directors
  • A background in media, communications, public relations, new media, marketing, advertising, or experience in television/video production a plus
