Position Title: Midwest Clean Energy Intern

Location: Austin, Texas

Dates and Compensation: Full-time (35 hours/week); $4,200 for the entire summer ($12/hour)

Description: EDF offers internships and fellowships for students and recent graduates in a variety of programs and departments throughout the organization. The ultimate goal of our internship and fellowship program is to provide high-quality experiences (including relevant projects and opportunities for networking) that form the foundation for any individual who is serious about pursuing an environmental career.

EDF’s Clean Energy program seeks an intern to assist in our effort to advance efficiency and renewables, encourage financing for clean energy, and promote grid modernization in our Midwest operations, with a focus on Illinois and Ohio.

  • Help advance clean jobs legislation
  • Enable customers to cut their energy use by obtaining access to usage data from smart meters.
  • Calculate the greenhouse-gas reductons from advanced meter infrastructure.
  • Encourage new initiatives to finance efficiency and clean energy.
  • Promote microgrid demonstrations that highlight the environmental and economic value of clean distributed generation.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate clean energy activities in other states.
  • Help build coalitions, particularly with firms advancing efficiency and clean distributed generation.
  • Conduct research on utility efforts to promote or block clean energy.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate student or recent graduate.
  • Good understanding of the electricity industry and energy politics.
  • Ability to find telling anecdotes and write well.
  • Knowledge of social media opportunities.
