Description: Pacific Environment is looking for a China Program Intern for Summer, 2015. Pacific Environment has partnered with local and indigenous communities in Russia, China, the Alaskan Arctic and the West Coast of the United States for more than two decades. We believe that long term environmental and social progress originates from strengthening local communities and grassroots movements (complemented with sophisticated policy advocacy at international finance and governance institutions). Our work to build robust civil society institutions and leadership has led directly to shutting down polluting factories, holding companies like Apple Computer responsible for their suppliers’ conduct, forcing the oil industry to meet its clean-up responsibilities, and stopping coal mines and destructive dams.

We currently are engaged in building the capacity of Chinese non-governmental organizations to work on water and air pollution. We are looking for an intern to assist our China Program Director in this exciting and challenging work. We welcome applicants who have particular interests in environmental protection, civil society, and China.

Responsibilities: The intern will assist with the following areas:

Administration: assist with program administrative tasks (no more than 20% of the intern’s time).

Skills and Experience Desired: mandarin Chinese speaker strongly preferred; good English writing skills; some college education is strongly preferred; some environmental campaign experience or education in an environmental field preferred.

Qualifications: able to work cooperatively in teams; flexible, positive, takes initiative, and demonstrate good judgment; punctual and has excellent follow-through on tasks and projects; problem-solver.
