Position Title: 2015 Summer Intern

Location: New York City, New York

Dates and compensation: Internships generally begin in January and last through April. A modest monthly stipend is available for full-time positions (5 days/week). All Urban Green interns are also extended complimentary invitations to Urban Green educational programs and events. Our Summer Scholarship can provide up to $6,700 additional income to those selected, you must apply for the internship to be considered for the scholarship.

Description: Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit organization working to advance sustainability in the urban built environment, has an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual passionate about contributing to the growing green building movement.

Urban Green is seeking a Policy Intern to assist in data analysis, report production, and administrative support to the Policy departments. Candidates should be able to take on multiple projects and work independently with flexibility, enthusiasm, and creativity.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to report content and production
  • Assist with sustainability planning projects
  • Research and review legislation and agency rules on NYC Green Codes
  • Examine raw data and perform basic spreadsheet analysis
  • Assist with data visualization and presentation
    • Perform administrative tasks as assigned, including general office work and event assistance
    • Develop and maintain web content for ongoing projects

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree (Bachelor’s candidates in their last two years of study will be considered); environmental, engineering, or building-related fields of study preferred
  • Strong interest in and understanding of green building and environmental issues
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Proactive with a strong work ethic
  • Detail-oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to supply your own laptop

Additional Skills (optional but preferred):

  • Background in architecture, engineering, or construction
  • Experience with statistics and data management
