Position Title: Policy and Research Intern

Location: Los Angeles, California

Description: SCOPE seeks a highly motivated undergraduate or graduate level intern who is eager to gain hands-on policy and research experience with a community based organization. This part-time paid internship position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in interdisciplinary research, policy analysis, and campaign development.

The intern will focus mainly on climate and workforce policy issues, but will also explore the impacts of broader trends in equity and investment across Los Angeles. Primary tasks include policy tracking, data collection, analysis and report writing. The intern will also provide research support to community organizing and training departments. Schedule and hours are flexible, with a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and analyze large county and local-level data sets;
  • Monitor legislative priorities and track media coverage;
  • Assist with policy analysis, and writing and editing reports, blogs and other materials;
  • Support additional research, community organizing, and campaign activities

Qualifications:

  1. Undergraduate or graduate student, preferably in a related field;
  2. Familiarity with relevant data sets, including Census data, labor statistics, etc.;
  3. Strong organizational, analytical and communications skills;
  4. Experience working with Excel spreadsheets and/or databases
  5. Experience conducting literature reviews or other background research
  6. Commitment to learning about the issues that affect low-income communities of color and a justice-driven approach to research and policy development

Additional Qualifications:

  1. Research or policy development experience in the fields of climate resilience, environmental justice or workforce development;
  2. Experience conducting basic statistical analyses;
  3. Proficiency in ArcGIS mapping software
