Job Title: Attorney Fellowship

The Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) is seeking an attorney to advance environmental protections at the federal, state, and local levels. The position is for a one-year fellowship with a focus on large pollution sources in Maryland. The Law Fellow will work with EIP staff attorneys to address environmental justice issues in Baltimore, as well as air and water quality issues in the state of Maryland. EIP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization established in March of 2002 by former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency enforcement attorneys to advocate for more effective
enforcement of environmental laws. The organization has three objectives:

(1) to provide objective analyses of how the failure to enforce or implement environmental laws increases pollution and affects the public’s health;

(2) to hold federal and state agencies, as well as individual corporations, accountable for failing to enforce or comply with environmental laws;
and

(3) to help local communities obtain the protection of environmental laws. For more information, please visit our website at www.environmentalintegrity.org.

Qualifications: The applicant for either position should be an attorney with two to three years of combined experience in litigation, environmental advocacy, specialized education, or equivalent experience. Candidates must demonstrate strong writing and analytical skills. The applicant must be a member of a State Bar. Maryland Bar membership is preferable. The ideal candidate should have previous experience with developing or litigating cases and/or commenting on and challenging environmental permits and rules. Additional experience in policy analysis, media outreach, and coalition building would also be helpful. Candidates must demonstrate strong writing and analytical skills. Prior knowledge of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Administrative Procedure Act, and other environmental statutes is preferred.
Salary: The salary for this position is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with experience.
