Description

The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), a national leader in building public environmental literacy, is seeking an Intern for Earth Gauge an exciting program developed in partnership with the American Meteorological Society (www.earthgauge.net). Earth Gauge is designed to make it easy for weathercasters to talk about environmental and climate topics as they relate to the 3-5 day forecast in US media markets by providing weekly, tailored environmental facts and viewer tips for use on-air. Currently, the service reaches 200 meteorologists, journalists, and radio broadcasters in 116 cities, and The Weather Channel, and it continues to expand. The successful candidate will work at one of Washingtonian Magazine’s “50 Best Places to Work” (2009) in a dynamic and expanding field with an experienced development professional.
Responsibilities: The Earth Gauge™ Intern will work to expand Earth Gauge™ information for current and new cities.

Primary responsibilities will include:
•Collect new information and data for Earth Gauge™ cities focusing on specific weather-environment topics
•Water-water quality, conservation, etc.
•Develop backgrounders and fact sheets on environmental topics and events;
•Assist with web updates and special projects as needed.

The ideal candidate will have: Intern should have a background in environmental science, Meteorology, or Geography or a related field. Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex science concepts into understandable terms that can be relayed to the public. Good computer (Word, Excel, Internet) and research skills. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with our small program team. Good sense of humor.
Start Date: June 2011 (Flexible). This is an unpaid position and the work schedule can be 20-30 hours per week; hours are flexible within organization operating hours (9:00a – 5:00p).
