Position Overview:
The Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) seeks a committed and experienced Development Director to help coordinate the organization’s well-established foundation fundraising and membership programs. Headquartered in Gainesville, Florida, with field offices and permanent programs in Costa Rica, Panama, Bermuda, Melbourne Beach (FL) and Nevis, STC is the world’s oldest and most accomplished sea turtle research and conservation organization. With 7,000 members, an annual budget of $2.5 million and over 50 years of successful research, education, conservation and advocacy on behalf of sea turtles and their habitats, STC is a respected global leader in the field of marine conservation. The organization is financially stable, well managed and expanding financially and programmatically. An experienced Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director and program staff to develop effective grant proposals for new and ongoing programs; identify untapped sources of foundation support; establish and maintain communication with foundation representatives; and manage active grants through reporting and updates to foundations. Responsibilities also will include creative oversight of an existing membership program, with the goal of maintaining and growing an established membership base using effective forms of print and electronic communications and outreach efforts.

Qualifications:
o Minimum BA or BS in related field
o 3 or more years experience in development
o Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, foundations, members and a broad range of donors
o Ability to learn and understand complex biological/conservation issues and to articulate them in writing and verbally to general audiences
o Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage foundation grants
o Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel and email programs; working knowledge of donor management software (e.g. DonorPerfect) a plus
o Ability to work well under deadlines and be able to juggle multiple projects at once
o Belief in Sea Turtle Conservancy’s mission
o Familiarity with marine conservation issues in general or sea turtles specifically would be a plus
o Willingness to relocate to Gainesville, Florida, with periodic travel to project sites
