World Policy Institute INTERNSHIP

The Internship Program at the World Policy Institute offers advanced undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain practical experience in policy research and advocacy on international issues by assisting with the production of the World Policy Journal, conducting research for the Institute’s senior fellows, and assisting with a variety of tasks involved in the operations of a respected center for innovative policy leadership.

 

Past interns have gone on to staff positions in government, non-profit, and business organizations including Conservation International, Demos: A Network for Ideas and Action, Eurasia Group, Independent Diplomat, Millennium Partners, New America Foundation, Sightsavers International, WaterAid America, Worldwatch Institute, the World Policy Institute, and many others.

Crain’s New York Business (June 21, 2006) has cited WPI as one of the most sought after internships for ambitious students and recent graduates.

 

Internship duties vary but may include the following:

 

  • Assist Senior Fellows with research
  • Assist in the management of fundraising efforts and events
  • Support media outreach
  • Newsletter writing and production
  • Update the website
  • Assist with general office operations
  • Attend relevant events and report on them
  • Liaise with partner institution
  • Manage contacts and mailing lists
  • Event coordination and staffing

QUALIFICATIONS
Strong writing, research and computer skills are essential; web experience and proficiency in Microsoft Excel will be given priority. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong interpersonal skills who is well organized, attentive to detail, and willing to participate in a variety of tasks as needed. A keen interest in the Institute’s mission and body of work and an awareness of current events are essential.

 

COMPENSATION
Internships are unpaid; however, course credit is available and hours are flexible.

 

INTERNSHIP TERMS AND DEADLINES:

  • Fall semester internships:   applications are due August 1;
  • Spring semester internships; applications are accepted October 15- November 15;
  • Summer internships; applications are accepted February 28-March 28
