Marketing / Communications Internship – New York Bicycling Coalition

The New York Bicycling Coalition is the statewide bicycle advocacy and education organization.  We work to make all roads safe for use by bicyclists and other road users. NYBC seeks a motivated, skilled degree seeker to complete a defined set of projects and tasks.

Tasks

1. Revise & Update NYBC’s website:  www.nybc.net;
2. Implement a new online Events Calendar.   Project includes coordinating with a web design consultant, managing a database, posting advertising and interacting with business members & bicycle industry representatives;
3. Creation and distribution of promotional materials;
4. Assist with membership development;
5. Assist with maintaining and enhancing NYBC products including press releases, a newsletter, e-news, and social networking sites.

Qualifications

The projects and tasks outlined above are of great importance to the success of the New York Bicycling Coalition.  This opportunity requires a self-starter, motivated to support the success of a small, dynamic, progressive non-profit organization.  The successful candidate will possess high quality skills in graphic design, marketing, communications, web design and/or social networking.  The Intern must demonstrate good communication skills, and be well-organized and  conscientious.  Interest in bicycling, policy, transportation issues, city planning, etc are desirable, but not necessary

Compensation & Term

The position will pay $12/hour.   It is expected that the internship will begin August 15, 2011 and will run through at least December 15, 2011.  Part-time (20 hours/ week).  Intern will reside in Hudson Valley or eastern Mohawk Valley.  This internship provides the right candidate with an excellent opportunity to take on significant responsibility for projects that are important to the success of the New York Bicycling Coalition.  The intern will have the opportunity to develop professional quality additions to a portfolio, to network with a broad range of individuals in diverse fields and  to support the success of an established organization that is seeking to transform transportation policy throughout New York State.
