Summary: The University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond is seeking qualified individuals to teach in our Lakeside Classroom program. Ideally, candidates will commit to a six-month season with Bryant Pond. In the summer, duties include working as a camp counselor or trip leader in our summer camp program. In the spring and fall, responsibilities of the Field Teacher include teaching environmental education and teambuilding lessons to students from grades 2 through college. The season for this

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Care for the health, safety and well being of all campers/students
•    Teach and lead groups of 8-15 students
•    Help in all aspects of the program including; teaching, program design/scheduling, maintenance, cleaning and kitchen duties
•    Responsible for cabin duties on some overnight programs
•    Full-time work, Monday morning through Friday afternoon with rotating night time and weekend responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidates will meet a majority of these qualifications
•    Preference is given to those who have completed or are working towards a degree in science, education, adventure education or outdoor studies (related experience will be considered)
•    Wilderness trip leading experience preferred but not required
•    Age 21 or older
•    First Aid and CPR training, WFR is preferred
•    Commitment to working long days with participants in a hands-on and high energy setting
•    Experience educating and managing children grades 2-9 in an outdoor setting and the confidence to lead adult groups
•    Experience facilitating teambuilding initiatives, as well as low and high challenge course activities
•    Understanding of basic ecological concepts and willingness to learn environmental education lessons
•    Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions while keeping participants safe
•    Willingness to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the program and participants
•    Commitment to working collectively as a part of a hard-working, supportive and positive team
•    Experience with camp or outdoor program routines and schedules
•    Ability to hike 5-10 miles with a 40lb pack, teach canoeing skills, and comfortably lift 50+ lbs
•    Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record
•    Interest in outdoor skills including: Archery, Fishing, Hiking, Canoeing, Hunting, Backpack/Canoe Expedition, Initiative Games/Challenges, or Primitive Survival Skills

JOB LOCATION:
Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center is located in Bryant Pond, Maine and is a short drive to the beautiful White Mountains and the Rangeley Lakes regions. The local area provides many opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts including rock climbing, backpacking, canoeing and a large winter ski industry.  Portland, Maine’s largest city is only an hour’s drive with live music, good food, and shopping.

SALARY AND BENIFITS:

Benefits include a salary of $200-325/week (depending on experience), room and board, use of camp facilities (kitchen, boats, laundry), Internet access, and discounts on outdoor equipment.  Bryant Pond can be used as a college internship site in summer or fall.  Unfortunately pets are not allowed on the University of Maine Bryant Pond campus.
