Description
The Director of Pine Jog Environmental Education Center reports to Florida Atlantic University, College of Education’s Assistant Dean, PK-12 Schools and Education Programs. The Director is responsible for all aspects of management and visionary direction of Pine Jog which includes primary responsibility for fiscal systems, human resources, strategic planning, fundraising and academic programs.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Financial Management
a. Prepare annual revenue and expenditure budgets
b. Approve, amend and monitor budget requests and revisions
c. Prepare salary allocations including merit, discretionary and supplements
d. Approve requisitions and travel vouchers for staff
e. Monitor all account balances
f. Prepare financial reports as required by the College, University and Board of Directors
g. Supervise grant management and serve as Principal Investigator
2. Financial Resources
a. Provide leadership in development of annual fundraising plans
b. Identify, develop and submit grant applications and supervise pre/post award process
3. Strategic Planning
a. Provide leadership toward development of a long term strategic plan and implement short term goals
b. Supervise implementation of annual review of strategic plan and annual organizational workplan
4. Staff
a. Support and oversee the implementation of annual performance evaluations
b. Implement appraisal process
c. Provide oversight for professional development of staff
d. Submit recommendations to the Assistant Dean for the employment of new staff
e. Provide oversight for all staff assignments and annual workplans
f. Chair staff meetings and staff planning
5. Academic Leadership PK-20
a. Review and recommend program improvements
b. Teach, as appropriate
c. Work cooperatively with the academic departments in the College
d. Encourage, develop and recommend innovative programs
e. Oversee program research and disseminate findings
6. Facilities and Land Management for Pine Jog West Palm and Everglades Youth Conservation Camp sites
a. Coordinate necessary activities to organize, plan, oversee and evaluate facilities
b. Support Land Manager and Camp Manager for purposes of master planning, facilities reports and capitol projections
c. Oversee appropriate procedures for the use of vehicles and other property in accordance with policy and audit requirements
7. Committee/Professional Responsibility
a. Seek community resources to support and enhance the mission, programs and projects of Pine Jog
b. Serve as ex officio member of the Pine Jog Board of Directors
c. Develop and champion an active and committed Board of Directors
d. Meet regularly with the board chair, committees and members to establish and enhance effective board processes, meetings and actions
e. Actively participate in appropriate professional organizations and community activities
f. Serve on other committees as appropriate
8. Communications
a. Actively provide information to personnel, University and community at large
b. Provide and respond to news media with appropriate information through the College
c. Develop collaborative relationships within the College and other departments within the University
9. Policy Formulation
a. Identify policy concerns and make recommendation to Assistant Dean
b. Administer all relevant center, department, College and University policies
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree, Doctorate preferred
5 years Administrator/Senior Leadership of Environmental Education Center, Nature Center, or related organization
3 years Teaching Experience
